Some people will do anything for a free trip to Las Vegas. in this woman’s case, she made a wedding dress out of Taco Bell wrappers for the “Love and Tacos” contest. Of course it went viral, this is the internet, after all.
Diane Nguyen and her fiancé of four years, Nick, are just one of many couples who entered the Love & Tacos competition, which grants the winners a free trip to Vegas and a wedding inside the restaurant. But this couple was clearly in it to win it and took their entry to a whole new level when Nguyen wore a dress made of Taco Bell burrito wrappers.
“IT’S TIME TO VOTE!!!!!!!! We didn’t know until recently that it was our dream to get hitched at a Taco Bell,” she posted on Instagram. “We also didn’t know about this contest until we were out of the country and halfway around the world. With help from our friends and a bit of extra hot glue we got off the plane and immediately scrambled to shoot a photo at our local restaurant before the deadline.”
Creative? Yes. Absolutely Fabulous? No way.
The Knot’s annual survey of wedding expenses is in for 2016, and the new average price in the U.S. is a staggering $35,329.
The Knot started tracking the average cost of a wedding in 2006, and 10 years later that amount has hit an all-time high. Since just last year’s survey, which revealed a national average of $32,641, the average cost of a wedding has increased by $2,688.

This, despite the fact that the average number of guests gone down to 141. I only had about 30 people at my own wedding. While weddings used to be just a service and a dinner, and maybe a photographer, not so anymore. Brides today (let’s face it, it’s the brides) are going all out with photo booths, areal drone photography, food trucks, artists, bands, and anything else they can think of to make it a huge event. And since that is the average, by definition half of all weddings cost more than that.
I can see it. I went to a wedding last summer where the groom confided in me was costing him well over $100,000, despite having fewer than 100 guests. The ceremony was at the Wayfarer’s Chapel. The reception was at the Palos Verdes Beach Club. Catering by Terrenea. Music by The Blue Breeze Band. Planning by Run Away With Me. Video by Lenzworks.
Is there such a thing as too much wedding dress? Eva Longoria pushed the limit for her second, and short lived marriage to NBA player Tony Parker. The dress is designed by Angel Sanchez, and I have to admit that she pulls it off. Too bad that train was longer than their relationship.
From the Too Good to be True (but actually true!) files, we get the best engagement photos ever. John Awesome (again, unlikely, but true) and Nydia Hernandez were getting their engagement shots in the fields and forests of the Cleveland National Forest in California, when they happened upon the death metal band Coldvoid.
The band was also doing a photo shoot for their album cover, and so were dressed in their finest stage regalia. Leathers, spikes, swords, and facepaint.
“During the last part of the session, we noticed a few guys with some corpse paint makeup on sitting at a nearby bench blaring out some black metal music,” Awesome, 34, of Orange County, told ABC News. “We just randomly thought it would be a funny idea if we could get them to be a part of our engagement shoot. So we approached them and asked and they more than happy to accept! Super nice people. I seriously can’t make this stuff up.”
And like the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, when they got mixed together, the magic happened.
